Family,
Christmas is fast approaching.
We only need to take a stroll in the mall to remind us that the most joyous
holiday of the Christian calendar is almost here.
Christmas is my favourite time
of the year. Here in the Philippines, it is filled with parties and all
kinds of social and family gatherings. But for some, Christmas is a very
lonely time of the year.
This year, many families will
spend Christmas without their husband or wife, who is working in a far away land
trying to send home enough money to support their families. Our prayers go
out to those many thousands Filipinos who spend Christmas in a ship floating in
the middle of an ocean somewhere.
Here in Maranatha Cebu, there
are many wonderful holidays taking place. Within the next few days, we
will be updating our calendar so you can plan to attend our annual Christmas
cantata, which is always one of the highlights of our year.
There is one more holiday event that I enjoy even more than the Cantata and that
is our Simbahan Pambata Christmas party. Yes, there is chaos, children
shouting, running, jumping, and noise levels that are more than our human ear
can bear, but I believe that If Jesus where to physically visit Cebu during this
holiday season, this Simbahan Pambata Christmas party would be one event He
would not miss.
In order for this party to be a
success, we will need more than 150 sacks of rice, scores of canned goods, and
many kilos of noodles. With your help and with the help of God, we will
give away five thousand (5,000) bundles of joy.
I suggest that you put Jesus in
your Christmas shopping list and help us make this year's event the best so far.
Any donation in cash or in kind will be greatly appreciated. You can bring
it to the Center, or if you need help, we can pick it up from your place.
